Green Living with MP: Get Your Home Green & Clean

Get Your Home Green & Clean In shaa Allaah.

A lot of us probably own several cleaning products. You might even have a favorite one. What is it? Do you know what's in it?  "Most cleaning product manufactures would have you believe that you need an arsenal of chemicals in order to get your house clean."

But that's not the truth. The truth is 9 times out of 10 you can clean your home without those chemicals.

Most of the chemicals used in commercial products are known to put your health, yours families health, and the planet's health at risk.

So today I want to share some ways we can clean green!

Why even bother to clean green?

Well it has been stated:

"chemical exposure, even at very low levels can have adverse impacts on the reproductive system. For growing babies, this exposure can lead to developmental effects, such as birth defects, low birth weight, and behavioral development."

"eventually chemicals make their way into the environment as as they wash down the drain or are sprayed into the air. Their impact on natural ecosystems can be devastating."


Fifty years ago, consumers used natural items like vinegar, baking soda, and pure soap to clean their homes. But after World War II, many of the chemicals that had been developed for the military were marked to the general public in the form of plastic wrap, pesticides and chemical cleaning agents.

First before go into the green alternatives here are some chemicals you want to avoid:

*Glycol Ethers

Check your normal cleaning products that you use for these chemicals 

Natural Air Fresheners:

Everyone wants there home to smell awesome. Right? Well there are ways to achieve a nice smelling home without inhaling all the toxins from commercial products.

"You don't need a bottle of chemicals to make your home smell great. Here are some simple, homemade air fresheners to try:

* Baked treats: If you like your house to smell like fresh baked apple pie or chocolate chips cookies, why not treat yourself to some goodies and actually bake some?

*Baking soda: Baking soda absorbs odors, so place a few open boxes throughout the home

*Essential Oils: Essential oils like cedar and lemon can be used in a number of ways to clean and freshen the air in your home. Dilute essential oils in water and spray into the air.

*Household spices: dd any one of your favorite smelling herbs such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, basil, or rosemary to boiling water and allow it to simmer on the stove and release its fragrances into the air.

*Natural candles: Standard paraffin candles are made from petroleum and off-gas VOCs into the air. Instead, burn soy or beeswax candles for a pleasant fragrance without the chemicals.

*Plants: Indoor plants are another great way to keep indoor air fresh and clean. They won't necessarily remove odors, but they work great as air filters.

*White vinegar: Vinegar can be diluted in water and wiped on surfaces or sprayed in the air to clean and freshen naturally
