Green Living with MP: Homemade Natural Beauty Remedies Part 1

All praise and thanks belongs to Allaah. Lord and Creator of all the worlds. May Allaah bestow His peace & mercy upon the Prophet, his family, his companions, and on all of those who follow them in truth until The Last Day. Aameen

As salaamu alaykunna!!!

Salt and Honey Scrub with Grapefruit and Rosemary
Fills about 6 half-pint jars. Shelf life 4 months.

2 cups olive oil
2/3 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon grapefruit essential oil
1/4 teaspoon rosemary essential oil
3 cups salt
sugar (optional)

Mix the first 4 ingredients together in a bowl. Gradually mix in the salt 1/2 cup at a time. It's easiest to mix with your hands. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.

Continue to mix until the oil is mostly absorbed into the grains. It will be very thick and mass together with a bit of oil seeping out. If it's not coming together after several minutes, add salt or sugar in half cup increments until it's a gritty oily paste (you will need more salt/sugar if using kosher salt and less if using a finer grain salt).

Simply Sweet Skin Softening Sugar Scrubs <3

Things you need:
Coconut Oil
Mason jar
Essential Oils (optional)

Things to do:

1. Melt coconut oil. Or, if you can’t find coconut oil, use olive oil which is just as beneficial for your skin although it does have a stronger scent. The amount of oil to use depends on how big a batch you want to make.

2. Pour in enough sugar to make a paste.

3. If you like, you can enhance the treatment with an aromatherapy effect by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

4. Pour the skin treatment into a clean glass jar with a secure lid.
Scoop a bit out every day when you shower and rub it over the parts of your body that need help exfoliating like elbows, knees and feet. (taken from: http://factorydirectcraft.com/factorydirectcraft_blog/simply-sweet-skin-softening-keywords/)

Aloe Vera Skin Care Recipe That Will Make Your Skin Flawless (In shaa Allaah)

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (high quality is best)
- Gel from 1 large aloe vera leaf

Using the gel straight from the leaf is going to be the best, but not everyone has access to these. If you are not able to find one, purchase some all-natural aloe vera gel from your local drugstore. Read the ingredients on the back to ensure there is only aloe vera in it. A lot of products add things in the bottles.
Once you have both of these ingredients, mix them together. Use this once in the morning and at night, or just once per day. This smells really good and will make your skin soft as well. Some people say it even helps combat their eczema or extreme dry skin. Since eczema lotions can be so expensive, this is a great alternative to consider. Sugaring Hair Removal Recipe:

2 cups white cane sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup water
Mix ingredients in a heavy sauce pan over a medium-high heat. Stir the mixture often so that it doesn't overheat at the bottom.

This recipe can be used for both face and body sugaring. Many people are turning to this hair removal method because it's more gentle to the skin and less painful than waxing.

Using a heavy sauce pan is extremely important. If the sauce pan is thin it can throw off the entire temperature and overheat the sugar, making it cook too quickly. Cooking fast isn't good, it needs this time to simmer. So I would suggest using a heavy, stainless steel pan if possible.

Hair removal using honey
What You’ll Need
1 cup of honey
1 cup of sugar
Juice of 1 lemon
¼ cup of water

  • Your stove should be on a medium setting for this one. Heat the sugar until it caramelises. Remember to keep stirring so it does not stick to the bottom. Add the lemon juice and honey. Keep stirring. If the mixture gets too thick add the water, tablespoon by tablespoon, to thin it out. When you feel that the consistency is enough to be comfortably spread across the skin, turn off the stove and let the mixture cool.
  • This second recipe with honey will leave your skin feeling smoother and is recommended for those with sensitive skin since honey is a natural moisturizer, cleanser and antiseptic. However, the first recipe is easier to wash off. So select your recipe depending on what matters to you more. (take from: http://www.glamcheck.com/fashion/2012/12/10/how-to-make-sugar-wax-at-home/)
