Circle Time: Quick Tips to empower your homeschool journey

Bismillaah

All praise and thanks belongs to Allaah. Lord and Creator of all the worlds. May Allaah bestow His peace & mercy upon the Prophet, his family, his companions, and on all of those who follow them in truth until The Last Day. Aameen

As salaamu alaykunna!

So many of us homeschool. We homeschool perhaps several children! Some of us are feeling helpless at the end of the day or just plain ole' confused.

This journey of ours, we strive to provide the best education for our children. Exploring the web in the wee hours of the night, just to print out worksheets for the next day. Sleep deprivation, much? (smiles) May Allaah reward the families for their striving in teaching their children. Aameen. Homeschool is serious business and it has its fair share of moments where you want to scream, cry, jump for joy, or run away into the sunset! Homeschool is an emotional experience.

Do you remember the first thing you taught your child that they recalled to you? The feeling of accomplishment. You taught your child something. But somewhere down the road you got drained and confused and you lost your spunk so to say.Let's get back on track and start trying to empower our homeschool journey.

By the way, don't beat yourself up if you start to lose focus or get discourage.

  • Make your intentions: You made up your mind. You started this journey. But why? I advise you to make your intentions solely to please Allaah. When you homeschool you are given a special/unique opportunity to teach and mold a young mind. Subhana Allaah. So when you get discourage go back to the beginning of this journey- remember why you decided to do this.
  • Get innovative: Remember take control of your homeschool journey. This is the time to embrace thinking outside of the box. Learning new skills and applying new ideas in the classroom. Get the most out each subject as if you were the student. Make learning fun for not only the student, but the teacher.

  • Research: Through knowledge you can empower yourself. Learn about different learning styles/methods. Research your child's grade level- learn what your child's milestones are so that you can make your lessons work for your child.
  • Have fun: You can homeschool and still have fun! You can also empower the journey with joy. Yet there will be challenges- embrace them and accept them. But grow from them and do not loose hope.
