Chef Naima's Gourmet Nostalgia: BAKED POTATO CHIPS




As Salaamu Alaikum sisters!  

I generally aim to prepare snacks that are as healthy as possible for my kids; however, this doesn't mean that I want them to miss out on special treats!  I enjoy finding ways to make healthy and delicious alternatives to all of the unhealthy junk food that is full of harmful preservatives.  Well, to be honest, this week’s snack recipe is influenced by my own cravings…Yes, that’s right!  I wanted potato chips; Although buying a bag of my favorite brand was just not an option! 

  That is when I decided to make ‘Baked Potato Chips’ just like I used to back when I was a youngster, and Masha Allah, I have to say that they turned out quite wonderfully!

Some of you may ask: “Why make potato chips, when buying them is so much easier?”.  

Well sisters…The answer is simple: you can’t beat the taste of homemade potato chips Masha Allah!   If you are a DIY mommy like I am, you will also most likely enjoy the process; including the look of excitement on your little ones’ faces when they realize that you are making them potato chips!  Ready to dazzle your kids?! 

  Here’s what you’ll need:

-Organic Potatoes
-Olive Oil
-Adobo Seasoning or Salt
-Black Pepper


Preheat your oven to 425 (I have a gas oven, so I heated mine to about 400).  

Put some water into a steamer, and bring to a boil.  

Meanwhile, peel 3-4 medium sized potatoes and slice them about 1/8 of an inch thick.  


When the water is boiling, place your potato slices into the steamer. 

  Steam the potato slices for about 3 minutes.  

Remove the potatoes from heat, and place them into a bowl. 

  Drizzle some olive oil onto the potatoes, as well as some Adobo seasoning (or salt) and pepper to taste.  

Gently toss the potatoes by shaking the bowl, so that you coat them with the olive oil mixture.  

Place the potatoes on to a lightly oiled baking sheet. 

  Bake for 15-20 minutes, turning them every 5-6 minutes to ensure that they don’t  stick. 

When the chips are golden brown, remove them from the oven & serve right away (especially if you want them to be crunchy!).  Serve with fresh fruit and yogurt!
