Chef Naima's Gourmet Nostalgia: Oatmeal Marzipan




As Salaamu Alaikum ummis!  

This week was all about experimentation!  I made ‘Oatmeal Marzipan’ for my kids, not at all certain what kind of reaction they would have to this unconventional treat.  They went over well with most of my kids ma shaa Allah, so I decided to share the recipe with all of you!  Here’s what you will need to get started:

-         ½ cup of Oatmeal made into a fine powder in the blender

-         1 ½ tablespoons of Coconut Sugar

-         2 tablespoons of Almond Milk

-         ½ teaspoon almond flavoring

-         1 ½ tablespoons of soft butter


-         2 tablespoons of cinnamon or cocoa powder

-         1 tablespoon of powdered coconut sugar (made by whirling coconut sugar in the blender for a few seconds)



Put the oatmeal, sugar, almond milk, almond flavoring and butter into a bowl and mix well.  

Make a smooth paste by kneading with your hands.  

Form the paste into 1 inch balls.  

Mix the cinnamon or cocoa powder with the powdered sugar in a small bowl. 

 I forgot to put powdered coconut sugar in my cinnamon mixture ummis, but it would have been a yummy addition to the recipe!  

Roll the oatmeal balls in the mixture, lightly tossing them to shake off excess. 

 Serve and enjoy!
