"May Allaah bestow His peace & mercy upon the Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions an on all of those who follow them in truth until The Last Day." Aameen
As salaamu alaikum and howdy everyone
Welcome to the blog. Get some tea and stick around. If you feel moved then leave me a comment and we can chat about the topic In shaa Allaah.
Today I want to talk about 37 things I'm intending to leave behind.
Why the number 37? Well that's a number I'll be leaving behind soon towards the end of the month In shaa Allaah.
During Ramadan I was able to recognize some things about myself that I'm currently working on.
I thought it would be a fun blog post to share what I intend to leave behind in my life as I grow each day.
1. Not relying 100% on Allaah
Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzan’s Explanation:
at-Tawakkul is to entrust your affairs and to place reliance in Allaah the Perfect and Most High, and to entrust affairs to Him, He the Perfect and Most High – this is at-Tawakkul (trust and reliance). And it is from the greatest of the types of worship, and therefore He said:
وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَAnd place your reliance and trust in Allaah if you are true believers [5:23]
2. Not being the person I truly want to be.
I spent a lot of time overly concerned about what others think. Being me only 45% of the time instead of 100%. The person I truly want to be is a person who just wants to please Allaah in every single thing I do.
In an authentic hadeeth collected by Imaam Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh (no.276), the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) said:
مَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَى اللَّهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، وَأَرْضَى النَّاسَ عَنْهُ، وَمَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ سَخَطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ، وَأَسْخَطَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسَ.
“Whoever seeks the Pleasure of Allaah while angering the people will have Allaah pleased with him, who shall make the people pleased with him [anyway]. Whoever seeks to please the people while angering Allaah will have Allaah angry with him, who shall make the people angry with him [anyway].”
3. Being quick to anger and slow to forgive.
During Ramadan I learned that I was holding on to a lot of anger. Some things are understandable as to why I may be angry and some not so much. I didn't really process why all the anger. I'm holding on to a lot of past issues and In shaa Allaah I'm working on letting go.
ارحموا ترحموا ، واغفروا يغفر الله لكم ، وويل لأقماع القول ، وويل للمصرين الذين يصرون على ما فعلوا وهم يعلمون
Abdullah Bin Amr Ibn Al-Aas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] said: “The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘Be merciful to others and you will receive mercy. Forgive others and Allah will forgive you. Woe to the vessels that catch speech [i.e. the ears]. Woe to those who persist – those who consciously persist upon what they commit [i.e. sin] whilst they know’”.
One of the Salaf saw a man complaining to another man about his poverty and need, so he said: ‘O person! By Allaah! You have not done anything more than complain about One Who is Merciful to you, to one who is not merciful to you.’
In that regard it has been said:
‘If you make a complaint to the son of Aadam,
then you are only complaining about the Merciful One to someone who is not merciful.’
And the one who is truly aware complains to Allaah alone; and the one who is the most aware, from those who are truly aware, is the one who makes his complaints to Allaah about himself, not about the people; so he is therefore complaining about the reasons which cause the people to overwhelm him. So he is looking to His Saying -He the Most High:
[And whatever misfortune befalls you, then it is because of the sins that your hands have committed.] [Sooratush-Shooraa (42):30]
5. Not being present. That means i need to put down the technology and enjoy life more.
6. Not making time to consistently memorizing Qur'aan.
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا“And We send down of the Qur’aan that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe, and it increases the oppressors in nothing but loss.” [Soorah al-Israa (17):82]
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى السَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ“Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.” [Soorah Qaaf (50):37]
7. Not trying new thing.
Yes friends. I was really stuck in work mode at MP for so many years. I didn't do new things or participate with the family when everyone was learning a trade/skill. Now I want to try and learn new things and share them here on the blog.
8. Not being social.
Of course with COVID it did slow down social gatherings. So for me, I like to be more intentional in calling friends, msging them, and speaking more with my neighbors (they are Muslim).
9. Not getting up a hour earlier than Fajr.
This use to be my thing!!! But with so much work that had came in from MP and just not being organized. I threw off my old schedule. I would love to get up an hour before Fajr to focus on myself and relationship with Allaah.
The time following Fajr prayer is full of goodness and blessings. At-Tirmidhee narrated upon the authority of Al Ghamdi that the Prophet said: "O Allah bless my Ummah in its early rising!" and whenever he dispatched an expedition or army he sent them early at the beginning of the day. Sakhr was a merchant who always sent his merchandise early in morning thus, becoming wealthy. That is why we find the craftsmen and traders are particular about making good use of this time. Those who sleep up to the late morning have denied themselves the blessings of this early hour. 3. Saheeh Sunan at-Tirmidhee
10. Not forgiving myself.
I tend to beat myself up a lot! I understand that I make mistakes and poor decisions. However I drag out my feelings guilt in a manner that would suggest that I am not mindful that Allaah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. It's not healthy and I need to go to Allaah and seek forgiveness and strive hard to do what is right.
Ok stay tuned for the next part of this series (I haven't had a series in years! woot woot).
What would you add to this list for yourself?
