Happy Tuesday to you and thanks for being here! I remember when I first took my shahadah (a testimony or declaration of faith that people say when they want to be Muslim) and I had a lot of zeal. I read so many books and made all the prayers on time. It seemed so easy because I found something by the permission of Allaah that I needed ever since I was a youth and didn’t know anything about religion, I found guidance. I loved rules and being told instructions on how to pray, what to wear, what to eat, and to get closer to The One who created me. I was always praying to Allaah for guidance and help as a young child, so much so my mother thought I was going to be a preacher. About time I entered college I thought I was going to be a missionary or a nun. Subhana Allaah. So, Al Hamdulillaah (all praise and thanks belongs to Allaah) I was guided to Islaam. Over the years (over 11 years) my life has changed immensely. I have children now (6 of them) and I’m happily married to my best friend, Ma shaa Allaah. With the increase of responsibilities comes the increase of duties and constantly having to manage more people than I use to. I am thankful to Allaah for my blessings and glad that my life has not turned out differently. In consequence I let my zeal dwindle and I was becoming a robot. Where was the emotions that I once had? I was just going through the motions. We have so many distractions lately that if we even manage to make the prayer whether it’s late or with a food stained hijab then it feels like a success!
But, it should not be like that. And if it is like that then we are going to strive to change it In shaa Allaah (Allaah willing). We are going to strive to change it because Allaah deserves 100% of what we got. You can’t expect true success in this life and the next without giving 100%. You have to go beyond what you made the new normal and in this series I would like to share simple things I do personally to get closer to Allaah. I hope that you guys will stick around as I share my journey to growing my relationship with Allaah and getting more from my life.
